As we approach the official Fall Equinox, I truly cannot wrap my head around the fact that Summer 2016 is nearly gone. This little blog of mine went live almost four months ago to the day, and Ellie & June is now two months old. My sweet son, who literally can’t go more than 15 minutes without looking for me, is nearly two years old (sniff sniff). My little Ellie, with her heart of gold is so full of questions nowadays. She loves to observe and will be starting preschool next week. And then there’s my husband… The person whose face is rarely seen but is such an integral piece of everything I do. He’s still over here leaving dirty wrestling shorts everywhere and making vile jokes. Haha, my caveman love 🙂
Since this blog is also a rolling journal for me, I wanted to take a few moments to write down what I’ll miss most about this summer with my little family. I have a 3/4 written post about my biggest fears as a small business owner, but I think this one is more well timed. So here we go! These are the things I will miss most about the summer of 2016:
Little footsteps upstairs
Next year, they’ll be bigger. This year, they come with screams and chaos. I complain about them now because I know Jackson is two seconds away from catastrophe, but I already miss them.
Ellie’s excitement when Dad comes home
One day, he’ll come home and she won’t greet him with excessive jumping and excitement. That will be a sad day.
Jackson’s desire to hold my hand everywhere
Oh my little love. We’ve gone over two miles with you refusing to let go. Our hands get so gross and sweaty, and I love every minute of it with you.
Ellie’s infatuation with band-aids
Everything needs a band-aid. The band-aid needs a band-aid. When I take them off she says she “misses them so much“
Bike rides in the chariot
Rolling up next to my two babies in their bike carriage, or seeing Chris pulling them a few feet ahead of me and knowing everything that’s most important to me is right there.
Ellie still occasionally at my hip
The moments that I can still pick up Ellie to show her something, like pinning clothes on the clothesline.
Ellie asking me if I’ll hold her on the couch
Please keep asking me this. I don’t care if you’re 16. I’ll drop anything to do it.
Discovering Disney Movies for the first time
The other night we stayed up late and watched Aladdin. There’s nothing like seeing them the first time. Also there’s nothing quiet like Aladdin.
Jumping in muddy puddles
To the mornings we delayed breakfast to go jump in the rain. One day your brother and you won’t ask to do this anymore.
Jackson refusing to let anyone take him out of his crib except me
The time he waited over 45 minutes for me to get home and take him out. Sigh, I love him SO much.
The way Jackson says “Mommy!” and hugs me when I pretend to cry
Favorite thing right now. EVER.
Ellie’s first nail painting
My baby girl. I finally said yes after months of politely asking, and your excitment made my heart explode.
Both kids’ infatuation with their blankets and stuffed “Duke & Pearl”
Your “boppies” and the stuffed animal versions of our late dogs, Duke and Pearl. I love that they are still such an integral part of our lives.
Jackson first hugging Ellie when he knew she was upset
When your brother saw that you were upset that your favorite pajamas weren’t clean, and then let you weep several minutes in his little arms. Holy smokes was I a mess.
Ellie taking naps in my bed
Every day. And sometimes I crawl in with her just to feel her warmth and watch her sleep 🙂
Weekend mornings when both kids are in bed with Chris and me
I can’t imagine that your brother and you will do this at ages 12 and 13… so I love it more than anything right now.
Moments when all Ellie wants to do is help me
Like on this day when we just went outside to hang clothes. You wanted to be right there, the whole time, helping. Jackson was still sleeping, Daddy had just mowed the lawn, and then he captured these little moments of you and me that I will never forget.
I hope that you all had a wonderful summer of 2016 🙂 I love and appreciate all of you so very much for reading!!!
