A couple of weekends ago we made a trip to Colby Farms in Ipswich, MA to see the sunflower fields. There has been a serious drought across the state this year. Our local pond is down 4-5 feet from its normal levels, and stream beds and surrounding water bodies are completely dry. Suffice to say, the sunflowers this year stood at a fraction of the height that they normally do. We were also a couple weeks behind so the sunflowers were a little wilted on this day, but it was beautiful nonetheless.
My first confession is that I’m actually terrified of sunflowers because of the bees they attract. There were so many bees here, I was cringing every second. Jackson was literally pushing the backs of them as we were moving along from flower to flower. My second confession is that after witnessing their lack of response from his spontaneous attacks, I was put a little more at ease that the probabilistic chance of them randomly attacking us all at once was minimal. Phew. Thank you one-year old son, this is obviously why I had you.
