This weekend, we decided among other things to go to Newburyport, eat ice cream, and change the name of this blog! In full disclosure, it was really really difficult to name the blog in the first place. Naming the store was easy. There were a few little disaster ideas here and there, but when we came up with Ellie & June, something about it just clicked. With the blog name, nothing clicked, but we really needed to move forward. We settled for a name that we could live with and moved on. This sort of hasty decision making certainly isn’t representative of how I like to make decisions (refer to this post where I talk about the importance of being deliberate and pragmatic), but things got to a point that we needed to take a step, period.
I wanted the blog name to suggest what someone could expect from the blog, and I wanted Ellie & June to be at the heart of that because it’s central to my family. I wanted the blog to be about who and what was behind the scenes of the boutique, and in my opinion, I could be doing better. I didn’t really have an idea of what people would want to read from me, and the only way to find out was to just jump right in. For example, I get asked all the time about my hair. I’m doing an interview exclusively about my hair with a lovely gal who has a blog (I’ll be sure to share it when it’s time). I get asked about lipstick color, my favorite toys for the kids, or product sourcing for the store. I can write about all of that, sure!
Anyhow, I chose the blog name “Behind Ellie & June” so that the boutique would be central to the blog, and then I seriously questioned if I just named the next big porn site, haha! True freaking story. But I had to move on. Fast forward two and half months later and it still wasn’t giving me the warm and fuzzies at night. Then, when the store went live, people were getting confused between the store and the blog, and I decided something needed to change. So here we are! I suppose bigger problems occur when you don’t respond and adapt. Wow, I’m really rambling on this post, but I ultimately chose to 86 (aka “remove” for those that have never slayed a restaurant shift) “Ellie & June” from the blog name and substitute “the boutique”. That way the boutique is still central to the blog, but hopefully doesn’t create the same confusion. Or maybe it still will; which I’ll have to ignore because I’m not going through this again (joking… kind of). So there you have it, Behind the Boutique is now the official name of this blog, and we’ll migrate everything to www.behindtheboutique.com 🙂
Aside from that major change, we really did enjoy an afternoon in Newburyport eating ice cream and playing with the kids. Chris’s family is in town from Denver, so we’ve been poking around the area showing them our favorite spots. Here’s a few more pictures we took from Saturday.
I hope you all had a wonderful and safe weekend!! Love to you all!
